Now the folks in SF have BAN bags at stores you need to bring your own.... this works well as a backpack and or a hand carry bag I live in San Francisco, half way up a pretty steep hill (rated at 6.3% by the city's Public Works Department) and by choice do not own a car.I am also close to 60 years old and though fit, have the usual age related problems.I don't mind the walk so much as lugging bags up the hill. I would get bruises on my fingers from the bag straps. It's the same problem with canvas shopping bags.For those who don't know, San Francisco does not allow those plastic shopping bags and so you have the additional problem of paper bags breaking.This product solves my problem. I can carry 6 to 7 bags of groceries and since you're carrying the weight distributed across your shoulders and back this can be quite a heavy load.This is the first pack I have found that is not just an adapted outdoor pack. Someone at Marmot must live in a city because only a true city dweller can appreciate this pack.The only fault I can find so far is the straps aren't quite padded enough and actually I'm here today to look for pads that'll fit.The top opening though secure can be difficult to get used to and always confounds the baggers.It does wash out and dry easily and the pockets with the rubber gaskets lining the opening are a nice touch and really useful.All in all, this is another quality product from Marmot and lives up to the name emblazoned across the face of this pack. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I started college so I got this backpack to deal with all my books, food, towel, gym clothes, sketchbook and supplies, some bicycle gear too. its huge. you carry a toddler in this pack if you wanted to.
