Amazon should allow us to put pictures on our reviews, because the pics the company submits are GARBAGE. Anyway. This past Spring and Summer my wife and I have gotten together our first ever set of backpacking gear, and this tent has been a great addition to our gear:Cons: Our tent came with two small poles that LOOKED like they were made to spread out the rain fly more, but they didn't fit under the rain fly in any way that made sense, so we took them out, you can do quite well without them. Also, the mesh is nice, but some of the stitching was poorly done, and it is a little on the fragile side. And the stakes that came with the tent are garbage, we bought some new ones for the rain fly, you still have to use the ones that came with it for the corners, but you will want better ones for the rain fly :S. The color is a little bit ridiculous...but that's not a big deal :DPros: First, the tent came well waterproofed. It rained some the first night we slept in it, and we stayed dry all night, which is really what counts. Second, the vestibule is GREAT! There was enough space in the vestibule to fit our shoes and packs, and everything stayed dry. Third, there is enough space in this tent for my wife and I to sit up and move around just enough. Also, if you don't feel comfortable keeping your packs out in the vestibule, you can fit them in the tent with you okay. And finally, the price is the best we have found for a dome tent of this quality. Sure, it is not a North Face or something crazy like that, but it only costs $50! What do you expect! It is a good tent. Some Advice: Get new stakes...you will be glad once you get out into the wilderness with it. Also, even though it does come pretty well waterproofed, you will still want to silicone it. And finally--you may find this helpful, or you may not--try setting up the tent by NOT putting the poles through the sleeves, just put them through the loops next to the sleeves! My wife and I found that this saved us a TON of time, frustration, and fear of ripping the sleeves when setting it up. This makes the mesh hang a little looser, but it makes a world of difference setting it up, this tent is a little fragile, so don't try to FORCE it at all when you set it up.That is about it. It is a great tent for a young poor-college-student backpacking couple such as us :D We would recommend it. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I really liked how this tent looked on paper: long enough to fit my cot, plenty of ventilation for warm mornings, and with very complete rain cover if the weather gets bad. I'll never REALLY know how it lives up to those expectations, because as I was setting it up the first time (at home, luckily), one of the tent poles broke. Specifically, the metal rung on the pole section that was at the very top of the curve snapped open (it opened along a seem, so it was apparently poorly welded/soldered/sealed/whatever). Some will say "you get what you pay for," but the last tent I bought was only about $40, and after owning it for at least 4 or 5 years and going camping several times a year, the only reason I'm replacing it is because my new cot doesn't fit properly in it. This tent definitely LOOKED good, but I won't be wasting my time on anything else from Stansport. This tent is surprisingly good. Stansport is best known for low end tents so I was not sure if the quality would be there. I am a seasoned backpacker and I needed a replacement for my 30 year old Eureka Timberline which was too heavy and no longer waterproof. I liked the light weight and large floor space of the Star-Lite so I bought it over better known brands. I also like the full rain fly design. Most tents have partial rain flys so your sleeping bag can contact the side of the tent and get wet. I'm a little concerned of the possibility for splash during a heavy downpour or leakage passed the vestibule zipper but other than that, I'm pretty happy with my choice. The set up is a little more complicated than my Timberline but it is not too bad. There is an error in the instructions which refers to a rain fly pole. No such pole exists and it's not needed. I really like the compact size and light weight. Most backpacking tents are wider when rolled up and they weigh one to 2 pounds more. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. By dave By E.
